Educators and other IEP team members, including parents/guardians, vocational rehabilitation counselors, county social workers and the individual student, are directed and impacted by federal legislation around special education and workforce development. The Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) (2004) mandates that IEP teams address students’ transition needs by the age of 16 and develop a results-oriented education program that is coordinated and individualized to allow progress towards measurable post-secondary goals.
