Description
In our fast-paced world of technology and ever-changing demands, it is often difficult to support teachers and speech-language pathologists on the journey to mastering core language in the classroom. Traditional models for providing staff support to team members consist of in-person training and consultation. However, current schedules and staff demands limit these opportunities.
This presentation will review a self-paced remote training model for staff to increase knowledge/skills in core language implementation. All participants reported gains in their own self-efficacy and skills and gains in students’ expressive communication skills (verbally and non-verbally). Implications for application of similar models will be discussed.
Learning Outcomes
As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:
-
Identify at least 2 current barriers to successful implementation of core language in the classroom.
-
Identify at least 3 research-based skills for successful implementation of core language in the classroom.
-
Identify at least 3 potential components of a remote learning module for staff training.
