Capable Clothing – Temeka Norris
Capable Clothing was founded in 2011 by Temeka Norris RN, to highlight the abilities of individuals living with handicaps, as opposed their disabilities.
Capable Clothing designs are made to assist individuals with limited abilities, (spinal cord injury, ostomy bags, rheumatoid arthritis, and the elderly) gain a more independent lifestyle, and reduce injury, and skin breakdown. Capable Clothing also assist the care givers of these individuals by designing clothing that reduce lifting and turning, thus reducing back strain and injury.
She has been working with Spinal Cord Injury patients for the past ten years. Temeka found herself constantly treating skin breakdown issues due to the zippers and pockets on traditional pants. She also wanted to address the back strain that she experienced as a caregiver while repositioning her patients. Temeka went to work creating the Capable denim jean, a fashionable pant that protects skin, and decreases caretakers back strain.
